"Probably the best netbook available." 2010-03-02

Pros:

Small
minimal battery extrusion unlike some other netbooks I looked at.
great battery life, I only charge this baby every three days or so.
Fast enough for almost anything you do.

Cons:

Glossy screen WHY????? I bought a matte screen protector for viewguard, and it works well.
no scroll bar on touchpad, you can do two finger scrolling but I find it is not as reliable as the good old bar.

This is an awesome netbook. We own three in my immediate family. Windows 7 is great and runs well on the netbook. Microsoft disables changing the background, luckily asus saves the day with an app change it. It is a great tool for portability, but it is not good for office work. Amazon has the best price.

"Hardware Good, Software Bad" 2010-02-28

I'll keep this brief. The 1005PE is one damn quick netbook. Running either Windows 7 or Snow Leopard, it boots and runs apps much faster than I would have expected (I upgraded the RAM to 2GB). I was always skeptical about how capable netbooks were, and this one delivers big time.

Windows 7 Starter sucks; it's pretty well known. This isn't my complaint. The recovery disc that comes with the unit forces you to install all the proprietary garbage software from ASUS and third parties when you try to clean install the OS from the OEM disc. It's ironic, because while it's installing, there are check boxes next to the extra software, but you can't uncheck them. If you cancel the install during this part, Windows states it has not been installed properly, even though it's already installed on the system.

This is a huge disappointment, as it takes quite some time to uproot the crap that ASUS installs. My recommendation: buy this netbook with a copy of Windows Home Premium, the do a clean install from the Home disc. The Anytime Upgrade key doesn't work unless you install from the ASUS W7 Starter recovery disk first. Pretty shady that companies are allowed to force you to install extra software. Oh well.

I LOVE THIS NETBOOK, ITS GREAT. I WENT WITH THIS ONE BECAUSE OF THE LARGE HARD DRIVE AND ITS 5 STAR REVIEWS. I ALSO BOUGHT 2GB OF RAM AND INSTALLED IT IN 5 MINUTES. THEN I UPGRADED TO WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM AND ALL MY PROGRAMS WORK GREAT LIKE MICROSOFT OFFICE. I HAVE A SLINGBOX AND IT WORKS GREAT. AND I ALSO HAVE AN AT&T DATA CARD THAT I PLUG INTO THE USB PORT AND I'M ONLINE IN SECONDS SO TRAVELING IS FANTASTIC. I USUALLY BUY HP PRODUCTS BUT THE PRICE, THE HARD DRIVE AND THE NEW 450N PROCESSOR MADE ME DECIDE ON ASUS. I LOVE IT AND WOULD RECOMMEND THIS NETBOOK TO EVERYONE.

I have only had this netbook for a few days but so far I am very happy with it. Amazon delivered it much faster than I was expecting as I chose the free shipping option. Pros.: I really like the keyboard.
The sound is good for a netbook,
The white color looks great,
Long battery life,
Easy to set up and to use,
I like the fast start option with Expressgate,
It stays cool and is very quiet.

Cons.: I find the silver clicker a bit stiff and would prefer two separate buttons.
Glossy case, the blue and black colors especially, I chose the white hoping it would'nt show fingerprints so much and I'm glad I did, the white does not show fingerprints as much as the others and it looks classy.
This is my first netbook and I am very happy with it so far and I am glad I chose this Asus over the other netbooks I considered(the new Samsung, battery not so good at under 7 hours, and the new Toshiba netbook, too expensive for my budget at almost $400) For someone new to netbooks as I am and as an inexperienced computer user this netbook was a good choice for me.

Update 3/2/10: I been using the netbook for a week now. I notice there are minor lagging with some of the task that doesn't use to lag. Also the battery life bar is very funky and inaccurate. It jumps up and down randomly. Today my battery was fully charged but the battery life only lasted around 8 hours. I kind of wish I bought a N150 now. I will keep you guys updated.

Update 2/28/10: This product contains a low z sound from the processor. I referred to two friends who also bought it, all three has a low clicking sound coming out of the processor. It's very quiet but kind of annoying. Other than that I would've to say this is the best Net-book for the price on the market today!

I got my netbook yesterday and my initial reaction was holy **** this netbook looks good! Charged for about *>12HOURS<* IT IS VERY IMPORTANT GUYS. The initial battery life actually started out with 12hours which is amazing. Key board take some time getting use to but it's decent and solid. Touch pad is way better than most of the brand's. Screen can adjust from very bright to deem. Just when I was amazed with tiny little thing... Then I notice something... A low tone clicking z sound coming out from inside the net-book, at this point I was like why!?!!? I really want to keep the net-book.

Called Asus they were nice about everything but after some long hold they told me I have to pay for ONE WAY SHIPPING in order to exchange it. WTHECK? I asked the person... You guys sell me a defect product and I have to pay to return it?? Anyways, I was about to send them to BBB, and that is when Amazon saved their ass.

Filled out one of those exchange fourms on Amazon. Then called Amazon's customer service. This is what I experience from Amazon:
Sir you'll receive the new one tomorrow.(I literally froze... U mean u are not going to ship it tomorrow but instead I am going to receive it tomorrow?) Yes sir. And just return the original with the prepaid UPS label the UPS man give you. Here is the local UPS #, you can schedule a pick up with them at your convenience. Amazing service from Amazon. I will never shop online at anywhere else. Thank you guys.

We have the UN55B7100WF which has the internet capabilities over the standard 7000 if I am correct. The picture quality is unreal for this whole line of TV's. The 1.177" thickness of the unit is amazing. I am blown away at the quality with the standard Cable box which only displays at 1080i instead of 1080p. I haven't tried a blueray player yet, but I am certain that it will surpass all my expectations. This is the first addition to our Home theater. The speakers on the unit are decent, but not home theater quality, but with even that said, I still rate this TV as a 5 out of 5. Very pleased and impressed with this unit.

We're usually Sony TV buyers but got sold on the LED idea when we saw how great the screen picture is when viewing from the side - not distorted. Sony does have LED but it is still new which means still expensive. The Samsung 7000 came out a year ago so is now half of what it cost last year! (Now that there is already an 8000.) The 7000 is the same as the 7100 sold in Best Buy except for the frame or something minor. Through Amazon, as of last week, we got this for 300 dollars less than buying local, no tax and no delivery charges - super deal, couldn't resist, though this is the most expensive thing we've ever bought on Amazon.

Delivery was very good. Amazon advertises that the TV can be at your place in 3 days. For us, that meant it was in our city in 2 days. The delivery company didn't call us on checkout but did call us the day after it got to our city (4 days). They gave a 3 hour window for the next day which is pretty good and were here as they said (Got TV in 5 days from ordering.) Brought the TV just where we wanted it. Didn't unpack it because it was cold? They said to wait 2 hours. I'm no expert so I don't know if that was the truth or an excuse. But they were really nice. They gave instructions on unpacking and keeping the packing in case of a return or exchange.

Quick start is quick! Out of the box, plug, find channels and go! Already mounted on a stand out of the box. Love the picture as is without fine tuning. The back is designed maybe a little too slim, though. Not much space to get the connection for an ordinary cable in - had to squeeze it in its slot - couldn't use the screw type with no space to screw it in. There's much more space for HD connections which we don't have. Maybe when we add a blu-ray, etc.

Viewing distance with LED truly doesn't matter as the local sales guys say. We were afraid 55 would be too big for a 6-8 feet distance but it isn't.

Wii - if you don't already have one, you may need an HD-Wii cable (35 at gamestop, maybe cheaper elsewhere, plus there are 3rd party types). The original Wii cable has only 3 connections; you need the 5. Without it, we had sound, no color and fuzzy images. With it, and with Wii settings - Screen - TV resolution set to 480p, great!

This is Day 1 and we're loving it!

After an exhaustive research project of about 1 month I came to the conclusion that the UN55B7000 was for us. We were replacing a Sony WEGA 42" projection LCD HDTV that was suffering from the dreaded blue smoke/cloud caused by the optical block. After using the new Samsung for a few days now I must say WOW, what a huge difference. We weren't reacting to the truely spectacular picture quality because of our Sony problems but because the details this screen shows out performed our Sony when it was new. 5 years of technology improvement really shows through in the 7000.

If you are reading this then you are where I was in th beginning wondering which one is right for you and your family. Well look no further this is the ticket. You might read about the shiny/glossy screen causing problems, well my living room is brightly lit in the morning with the large picture window facing east which is perpendicular to the TV, we have no issues with the glossy screen. In fact we both commented on how the picture looks brighter than the Sony did in the morning.

I've not hooked up the widgets so won't speak to them, although I have to admit I'm not in a hurry as we aren't interested in checking the weather with a widget or updating our Facebook from the TV. Plus the laptop is in the other room for those activities, in addition we have a PS3 that can do that as well, more or less.

If you are still undecided I suggest visiting [...] as you will find a wealth of information from the members of this great audio visual forum. Your brain will melt from the information but you will go away knowing what to do, I believe.

I bought this TV on January 29 with Amazon's 24-month free financing promotion to replace my old Samsung 50" DLP, which I've had for 4 years and is still working perfectly. Shipping was free and the TV was delivered right on time on Wednesday, February 3 by Pilot Delivery Services. I was told by the delivery men that they usually unpack the TV and turn it on to make sure the TV works, but because my TV had been in the cold delivery truck for almost 2 days (I live in Chicago), the delivery men recommended that I give the TV a couple hours to reach room temperature. I heeded their warning and about 2 hours later, I finally turned on the TV and WOW!

This TV definitely has a great picture and I am very pleased. I watch HDTV via an HD/DVR Comcast cable box and the picture is amazing. I have the TV connected to the cable box via HDMI 1, to a PS3 slim via HDMI 2, to my laptop via the PC input, and to my Samsung surround sound receiver via a digital optical cable. All connections produce vivid images and great sound. I have not really messed with any of the picture settings, as I think the picture looks great without tweaks. I do put the picture on Movie mode when I am watching a Blu Ray on the PS3, but I put the Dynamic Contrast back on (default setting is OFF on Movie mode). A lot of people complain or don't like the 3D-ish look of the Dynamic Contrast + 120hz refresh rate, but we really like it and always leave it on.

Although this TV only has a single tuner, I was able to get the Picture in Picture to work with 2 different channels, by splitting the cable before reaching the cable box, then using an HDMI from the cable box to the TV and a coaxial cable wire from the cable box to the ANT IN of the TV. Be sure to do a channel search on the TV input to obtain the channels for the sub-PiP screen. Note the sub-PiP screen will only show the local/over the air channels available in your area (at least for me), but the good news is that you can get the HD feed of those local channels on the sub channels (channel 2-1, etc).

Probably the best evidence I can give is the constant positive comments my wife gives me about TV. She was against the pricey purchase from the beginning, but she has definitely been won over and that should give the TV enough credibility on its own. We had a Super Bowl party and everyone kept raving about the TV (picture and thinness were the biggest comments).

The only feature of the TV that I have not been able to utilize is the Internet connectivity. I tried to connect the TV to the Internet via my cable modem (wired through my wireless router), but I was not able to get past the Internet Gateway portion of the Internet Connection test. Therefore, I cannot currently access any of the widgets, though I am not too disappointed as I would not normally not utilize them - I just wanted to see how they looked. I am sure the problem is with my wireless router (firewall or something), so I do not blame the TV. I should try going directly from the TV to the cable modem, but I have not tried that yet.

Lastly, this TV looks great mounted on the wall. I was going to buy the Samsung Ultra Slim mount, but I decided to get a far less expensive Cheetah Mount (also from Amazon) for around $30 with shipping and it works perfectly. I used a slight tilt on the mount and the TV hangs perfectly from the wall. I was very happy to save the $100 or so with the cheaper mount. I used the savings to purchase the Samsung-backed 3 year extended warranty from Amazon as well.

Overall, perhaps I am not as technically picky as most people who buy TVs at this price range are, but I have absolutely no complaints about this TV and am very happy with my purchase. I would recommend this TV to anyone and one of my friends recently purchased the 46" 6000 series model after viewing my TV. I will update my review if I come across anything I forgot to mention or any negatives I encounter.

My only negative is the wireless internet connection. It works OK but too slow to be very useful. One good surprise was the way it handled a 16 gig usb chip filled with photos and music. Everything looks and sounds great with a good user interface and logical default settings. As for the TV picture itself I've found none better...

I bought this computer for almost a year before they will to a single secondary school and counseling for the study of Japanese language. I have had many reviews that netbooks can not handle more than one thing at a time, and frankly I have no idea what they are reading to speak. My 1000HE soon my main computer for almost everything.

The key to this computer learns to maximize the hardware. If you want doll with all possibleapplications bloatware and fancy, but useless, then yes, it will be a very slow machine running. If you remove it, but to learn to bloatware, run unnecessary background services that 99% of users never need to upgrade to XP "Adjust for best performance" mode, and use of effective programs for video playback / virus / etc, the 1000HE much more than most votes is specified.

In fact, as I have this type of tests, how many tabs in Firefox with a standard-def youtubeVideo games and an MP4 extra 720p movie background file from the hard disk on the entire screen. Yes, you read that right. N. overclocking, and only a 2GB stick of RAM running. This was simply done away with the optimization of the system box and the installation of efficient software (KMplayer with appropriate codec for video playback BTW).

The 1000HE not get a full screen Flash HD (which) should not be confused with HD video from hard drive, will not run manysemi-modern games well, and will not be porn video / photo editing to do, but for general use, is a wonderful machine for the price. Long battery life, a truly excellent (better than most laptops, 2-3 times the price for the lower resolution), good keyboard, trackpad, and quite well.

Although the 1000HE is older and probably greater than that which is to say, the newer models that I should still be considered at 1, against a price. Opaque screenit uses. E 'far superior to using real world than almost any other netbook or laptop screen I have ever used. Most of the other Asus EEE rose less glossy and 2 screens. The 1000HE is a great success and very reliable. Asus, in general, is probably the most reliable Netbook / Laptop manufacturers and 1000HE also seems to be a standout among its counterparts brand in this regard.

CUSTOMER REVIEW - I bought this computer primarly for the kids to get internet access, elearning and watching TV. And after 2 weeks feedback, I conclude that it's perfect for that. Before I bought it I looked at the 2 reviews that were there and they are correct (thank you guys): this PC is not a super-killer beast, but it does the job fine. Beautiful screen, brights graphics, nice look (my wife who is on the Mac side was expecting a gray industrial box and was I think pleasantly surprised - and the kids as well). The price is right . It installed very easily (meaning, the kids - 9 and 7 - turned on the power, put batteries in the mouse and keyboard, and it went). It even recognised my printer without me installing drivers etc... The camera works very well, the loudspeakers and mic we attached as well. Only good surprises. ( I might have low expectations - my background is 20 years of usage of various unglorious corporate PCs and their "liberated" cousins that we bought back from our employers to use at home. So I might be easy to impress!) Btw, it is not mentioned in the specs, but of course it comes with a wifi adapter. It also comes with Windows 7 (apparently there was debate on that at some stage). My only grudge is that - as stated in another review - the disk partitioning is indeed insane. It goes beyond the problem of storing programs : because all the Windows users are in the C: partition, all the docs are piling in a small C: 40Gb and the D : 250 Gb partition sits unused. Anyway, I rate it 5 stars, for less than $600 it's a good deal and here at home we all like it. CUSTOMER REVIEW - I've been using this product for more than a month. I think it's just worth its price. I'm quite satisfied with this product for most aspects, but let me tell you something. Atom is an Atom. Every recent software requires more and more resources. For the most of the works, you may not find any difficulty, but the delay I always feel when I scroll a webpage with Firefox is really annoying. Do not expect too much on this low-end CPU. However, it has quite a good graphic card, that it doesn't have any problem with full-resolution movie or Google Earth. I don't know about 3D games, 'cus I don't play any of them. This is critical part. This model comes with a beautiful wireless keyboard and mouse. They're cute, and some say they got some kind of design award. I can agree on that. But one day they stopped working. I tried every way I can find on the web, but they never got back. I could send them back to ASUS support, but I know them. It takes more than a month to get my computer back. And they don't tell us anything about what the problem was, and what they actually fixed. I suffered it with my ASUS netbook. When it comes back from the support, it gets another problem. No, I'll never send my computer to ASUS support unless I have a real critical problem with it. So I just bought a new keyboard and mouse. Otherwise, it's fine. Bright wide display and good performance with reasonable price. What else do you need? CUSTOMER REVIEW - I bought this computer because my HP was 2005 vintage littered with all kinds of software. I really like Ausus & like the idea of an all in one. I have a thing about finger prints on monitors so the lack of touch screen was not a minus. This computer has the NVIDIA ION engine & I like the idea of "enhanced graphics" So what's not to like? The computer graphics are no better or worse than those on my HP I have been using. That computer had Intel enhanced graphics & a top of the line Samsung monitor new in 2008. I expected the Asus to run circles are the old computer but they are about equal which is excellent graphics rendering. And the Asus-with its Atom processor dual core still strains in ripping CDs. It has a nice internal speaker system-better than average but not exceptional. So the bottom line is that this computer is aethetically pleasing but its performance is nothing special. I guess my expectations were higher than what was delivered. But the kicker was that the computer's over all performance was no better than what I already had. So the computer is fine but so is my software cluttered old computer. UPDATE: When I reviewed this computer-I was unaware that the C Drive Partition on this computer was 40 Gig. The Data Partition was 250Gig. That is How this computer was set up by Asus at the factory. By defualt-Programs you download go to the C- Not the D partition. Who cares? If you own this computer-you will. What happens is that the C partition is way too small, and overflows. Asus Tech support stinks and they offer no remedy. You can repartition but you need to download third party software. I would NOT buy this Asus model under any circumstances. One star if I could re-rate this review.

CUSTOMER REVIEW - I was looking for a replacement desktop for sometime and finally decided that what I needed is an all-in-one. It is great to have only one cable, just for power. I was so sick and tired of the total six cables tangled up with the desktop - 2 power cables (1 for CPU and 1 for monitor), ethernet, VGA, keyboard and mouse. All this made the setup a breeze and not to mention if I ever want to move it to another location, it will be a piece of cake. No problem at all to start Windows 7 and to install several updates. Connecting to my home wireless network was also effortless. It runs very quiet too. I did some research on Sony all-in-one, but can't seem to justify the price tag - double of a regular desktop. I am very happy that I found this Asus model. I paid about $100 more (after the rebate) than I would otherwise with desktop of equivalent configuration. But it is well worth it. The design, I agree, it's not as pretty as the Sony, but much better looking than the HP Touch models. I have not noticed anything negative about this machine. It exceeded my expectation. Highly recommend it. CUSTOMER REVIEW - I don't need to describe this computer generally--just read the specs. Here are some particulars, though: - It's not the fastest, due to (i) its notebook processor, (ii) its notebook hard drive, (iii) its notebook video chip, and (iv) the 32-bit Windows 7 version that can use only 3GB of its 4GB of RAM - All that being said, it's fast enough for the average user. I've watched full HD movie files on it and the fan doesn't even spin up. Can't comment on 3D gaming though. - The speakers sound alright, especially once you turn on all of the SRS effects. Also there's no noise when you use headphones, a nice change from my latop. - The mouse is too small for my hand, and my hands are not that large. The wireless keyboard tends to turn off (to save power I assume) and usually I have to hit a key to wake it up again before typing. It has no caps/num/scroll lock lights (they're virtual, on the screen). Also, the keyboard is maybe half the width of the computer, contrary to what you see in the photo. - It doesn't include a normal Windows re-installation DVD; rather it's a recovery image that includes all of the installed BS. - The 22" widescreen is very reflective but otherwise nice. It has an HDMI input and is full 1080 resolution so you could plug your xbox or bluray player in and use it as a monitor. - The 2.5" hard drive makes little whining noises which are always audible since the rest of the machine is so quiet. Annoying. - Overall, despite its flaws, this is a versatile machine especially if you get it for the $690 after mail-in-rebate price.
