I have both the 8 inch and the 7 inch frames, and the 8 inch is far superior. The image quality on this frame is just okay, it gets a little grainy when you get into high contract photos. The transitions do not seem as crisp and clean as the 8 inch frame. I like to use the "Zoom" transition on the 8 inch, and it looks great, but on the 7 inch it just is ugly. The main problem is that its jerky (low refresh rate) instead of a smooth movement across the screen. That being said, I still like the 7 inch, but only because I got it for $50.

Features and picture quality are very good, but this HP frame is very buggy. I have had three of these units and returned each of them because of a problem. Unit 1: Frame seemed to work okay, but had a stuck pixel. I returned it for another unit. One issue that I noticed was that you cannot transfer a large number of files in a single copy to the 512MB internal memory without getting an error. You have to break it up into smaller chunks of files. Unit 2: Frame worked fine for about 2 weeks, but then the clock stopped. HP confirmed that this is a known issue. Need the clock working in order to automatically turn on in the morning and off at night. Unit 3: Pictures became corrupted during transfer to frame. Tried this on several computers with various numbers of files. Clock stopped working after about 2 hours. In addition, HP seems to have changed the routine for scaling the pictures. On the previous two units, 800x600 pictures scaled/cropped nicely to the 800x480 frame. This unit refused to scale the exact same set of pictures to fill the frame. I had to make them slightly larger (e.g. 1024x768) in order for it to scale them properly. HP states that they will have a patch for the clock issue and admitted that they have had some reported issues about file transfers and scaling. In my mind this digital frame is not really ready for prime time. It's a shame because it could be a really nice unit if it just worked.

Before considering this product please be informed that there are 3 variants of DF780 7" Digital frame - A2, A3 and A4. As of 1/1/2009 Amazon sells a DF780A2, Buy.com sells a DF780A3 and Bestbuy sells a DF780A4. I tried finding out the difference between the three but could not. The specifications for all the three seem the same, and manual is common too. So for now I am writing this review for DF780A2 even though I own a DF780A4. I spent three good months in identifying the best digital photo frame that fits my budget but still do not compromise on quality and features. Finally I bought this one as a gift for my parents during the Thanksgiving sale for 89.99 from bestbuy. Following are typically the features that the digital photo frames these days boast of: 1. Screen resolution 2. MP3 Capability 3. Video Capability 4. Calendar/Clock/Alarm 5. Touch Screen 6. Wireless Photo transfer capability 7. Types of External Memory cards supported (SD/SDHC/MMC/Memory stick etc....) 8. Internal memory capacity. 9. Ease of setup and operations. 10. Picture display options ( Sequential, Random order, Multiple pictures at a time etc.. ) 11. Remote control operation 12. International voltage considerations (110-240v) 13. International Support. I personally did not want a touch screen because I would keep my digital photo frame in a show case and would not have to keep touching it. (If i require to operate it, I would prefer a remote control instead of dirtying it). I do not need to upload photos wireless because I did not think its difficult to plug a digital frame to my computer and then drag and drop the photos from my computer hard disk to the frame. After looking at the numerous options available in the market, I shortlisted three based on my requirements. First I went and bought a Sony 7 Inch digital photo frame in Circuit City on a very good deal.. I must say I was happy with the screen resolution that Sony offered and the looks but I got only 256MB internal memory and it would display only pictures. I returned it and then bought this HP 7" digital frame. I must say I am happy with this frame; its worth every penny that I spent. Pros: 1. 512 MB internal memory - Believe me its a huge amount of memory. Please do not compare it against the memory offered by external cards in the range of 4GB, 8GB etc.. The reason is that Digital photo frame have a fixed screen size and a fixed resolution and hence having any picture that has better resolution than the resolution offered by the photo frame, its anyway of no use. Hence when you optimize all the photos to a resolution offered by this digital photoframe, you can save around 1000 pictures without a need for additional memory. 2. Support for MP3 - Attach a cheap SD card ( u get a 2GB for 7-8 dollars) and load them with MP3 files and play as u are watching the pictures. 3. Support for Videos - It supports all your videos files in Avi/MPEG format ( May be other formats that I am not aware of yet) ... 4. Good looks. (But if this is your most important requirement, consider Sony DPF-D70-it has the most elegant look in my opinion) 5. Easy set up. 6. Voltage range of operation: 110V to 240V -> Very useful if you plan to gift to someone in Europe or Asia as the voltage range is universal 7. Remote Control - Everything can be controlled with it.

Bought it for a Costa Rican vacation. I chose this over a newer waterproof point and shoot because of the price. It worked well, although the lens cover is plastic and upon inspection that is noticable in pictures. The other downside is that camera buttons and switches are difficult to use. Knobs/ wheels are impossible. More than once, I got in the water and realized I was on movie mode, not auto. Once in the water its impossible to open it up without exposing the camera to water. The upsides are many, begining with the price...about 10% of an underwater camera. It also offers great protection against drops. I would not have a problem recommending it to anyone. - very good product

I just bought the frame and put a 16GB sd card in it; works great. Took a while to copy the over 9GB of picture to it but had no errors. My one complaint is that the picture frame starts over from the beginning of the pictures everytime you power it up. With over 5200 photos it would be great it would remember the current picture at power off and start from there the next time it starts up. This would be such a simple upgrade to the firmware I'm surprised HP has not done this yet.

Paid $129 at a local warehouse club... It is worth that much to me, but not worth what Amazon is asking today ($198). Pros: *Good picture quality. *Easy to use the core features. *Nicer looking than most e-frames. It actually looks like a picture frame instead of a gadget. Cons: *Made in China. (but try finding one that isn't) *In spite of its ease of basic use, configuration settings are not very intuitive. *When copying photos to internal memory, it often errors out. Requires some patience. *Shuffle mode is weak, not random. Always starts with the same photo and although I have hundreds of photos loaded I see the same 20 or so repeatedly. *There are known problems/bugs that HP knows about and are working on a firmware upgrade for--but according to what I've read in other product forums HP has been promising the bug fix for a long time: *On mine, the built-in clock/calendar function has been flakey, causing the auto-on/off and the calendar view functionality to be useless. I have mine at the office and set it to turn on at 8 and turn off at 5... Worked great for the first few days. Then one day I noticed it was on in the morning before the scheduled time so I checked the time. The clock setting was way off. I think it was agravated by the fact that I unplug it and lock it up every weekend. Over the last 2 weeks it worsened until the clock didn't even move anymore. I read on a blog somewhere that there is a CR2032 battery inside that is the culprit. Opened mine up and replaced the battery this morning. So far, the clock appears to be moving again. I also saw mention of other clock problems and HP promised firmware upgrades. Overall I like the frame and would recommend it. If my problems were an anomaly due to a weak backup battery then I'll be fully satisfied with the purchase. HP would be well advised to make that battery externally accessable and incorporate a battery insulator tab to prevent battery drain during shipping like my 2-year old son's toys always arrive with. Update: The battery thing seems to have worked. I also got a reply from HP (in broken English) advising to do a full reset & if that doesn't fix it then the frame is 'faulty' and I'd need to contact the retailer for help. Sure hope I don't have to go there...

I have been looking for a digital photo frame for a long time and it was either this one of the 11" polaroid. Those were the only two I liked well enough to buy and own. HP and Polaroid are two great well known brand names. They have been around for a long time. I was debating on buying this frame considering the reviews, but I wen't for it and I am so glad I did. This is a beautiful digital photo frame. I love it. My mom even loves it and she did not like the polaroid one. I recommend this frame to everyone that is wanting to buy a frame. When I inserted a memory card, it got stuck though, but it was because I got it in too far. Also I started having problems with the power button, it will turn on, but can't turn it off for some reason, but it used to. You have to hold the power button down for a while though to turn the frame on. I have over 100 pictures on it and no problems. Downloading pictures onto it is a breeze. The picture frame has 512mb of internal memory on it. The pictures on it are excellent. I also bought a toshiba 8 gb. usb flash drive for it and I have one video and over 100 songs on it and no problems. Works fantastic. Music sounds great.

For several years after our first daughter was born we really couldn't successfully video tape Christmas morning before the sun came up without the wonderful video light. All the video was dark and grainy. Although I would like to have one that illuminates a bit further, this does do the trick. I remember my dad's old videos with the SUPER bright video light (back in the 60's) and everyone who was within 2 miles of the camera was blinded by the light! This one is not so strong but gives just enough light within about 5 feet to get everything fairly clearly.

I bought the CQ61-410US a month ago and it has been working perfectly. I run Counter-Strike source on it and it runs well. It is quiet, has a nice battery life, although I have not let it die yet. After some diligent search, I bought the Acer AX1301-U1312 with triple core, 4GB Ram, Nvidia Geforce 9200 with 256MB, 750 GB sata hardrive, ...seemingly a great bargain plus the excellent reviews. However, the first one I got had a defective Optical drive, the second one occasionally had nonresponding problem and made pretty loud noise when AND after burning dvds--the second one has no hardware problem but there maybe some configuration or program conflicts (no idea) that caused the not non-frequent freezing. Finaly, decided to buy this Compaq for both its price and good reviews. It turned out to be a complete satisfaction!! :) Couldn't be happier. It runs even faster than the triple core Acer. I have stayed away from Compaq for almost a decade because of my first bad experience with it. Now they have definitely improved their product quality. It plays HD video flawlessly. Very light for its size. Quiet when running regular programs. A lot of space inside the unit which makes hardware upgrade easy. Things I do NOT like: many useless programs, 6 USB pors--4 back and 2 front, dvd drive Eject button is awkward--when the tray is open, it blocks access to the button. You have to slip your finger under the tray to press close. Overall, it is a great value!

I have owned a Compaq prior. One thing I do not like is the DVD tray. When it opens, you have trouble pushing the button to get the thing to close again. In the open position, the button is blocked by the tilting tray. I have to use a letter opened to push the button. I also had some problems getting my HP printer to interface with this HP machine. But I went to the HP website and was able to download the patch after a few tries. Other than that, I am happy with the machine and would recommend it to others.

I bought mine for 350.00, added a basic 1 gig radeon video card, and went for another 1 gig of ram. I had to take out the 1 gig slot and inserted a 2 gig stick of ram (about 50 bucks for the ram and 52.00 for the video card. The computer seems fast enough out of the box, but I wanted full power so that I could edit videos. The only better configuration for the price I could find were refurbished computers, but you don't know what chance you are taking with those, broken plastic parts, etc....There was no need to change the power supply because I did not go for a high end video card that needed more juice to run.

I have owned a Compaq prior. One thing I do not like is the DVD tray. When it opens, you have trouble pushing the button to get the thing to close again. In the open position, the button is blocked by the tilting tray. I have to use a letter opened to push the button. I also had some problems getting my HP printer to interface with this HP machine. But I went to the HP website and was able to download the patch after a few tries. Other than that, I am happy with the machine and would recommend it to others.

I bought mine for 350.00, added a basic 1 gig radeon video card, and went for another 1 gig of ram. I had to take out the 1 gig slot and inserted a 2 gig stick of ram (about 50 bucks for the ram and 52.00 for the video card. The computer seems fast enough out of the box, but I wanted full power so that I could edit videos. The only better configuration for the price I could find were refurbished computers, but you don't know what chance you are taking with those, broken plastic parts, etc....There was no need to change the power supply because I did not go for a high end video card that needed more juice to run.

I thought this power cord was a great deal until I actually started to use it. It is thicker than the one which came with my Compaq Presario (another awful product), so I thought it would last longer. However, since it is about two feet shorter, it is difficult to position it in many places so that it is not tugging. It only took about a week of use before it started acting up--being very positional and not maintaining the power connection. I have to constantly check it while I am using the computer to verify that it is working, or the computer shuts down with a dead battery.

I bought this computer to replace a 4 year old Toshiba laptop that cost twice as much. This Compaq was easy to set-up and it's a pleasure to use. The processor is a single core combined with 2 gigs of RAM and it handles basic computing with little stress. The screen has brightness to spare and you can tweak the sound quality. This computer runs cool on AC or battery power.(much cooler than the Toshiba) I am very pleased with this computer and windows7 too.

I hadn't bought a new computer in almost 10 years. I chose Compaq because of that - my old workhorse (still functioning) is a Compaq! This laptop is a basic model, but works fine for the purposes for which I bought it. My only complaint is that the battery life is not as advertised, but I seldom take it anywhere that I can't plug it in.

I am a college student on a limited budget. I wanted a computer for under $500 that I could use for movies, video games, and homework. I bought the CQ61-410US a month ago and it has been working perfectly. I run Counter-Strike source on it and it runs well. It is quiet, has a nice battery life, although I have not let it die yet. I have dropped my laptop a couple times and it still works well. I would definitely recommend buying this. A+

I am not a computer geek so will skip the technical mumbo-jumbo and give the laymans review... It works good. Ive had it for a couple weeks now and I have no complaints. Everything runs fast and smooth. The moniter is big and bright and clear. For what I do (web surfing, photo editing, media streaming) it works great. Also, I gotta say that I love Windows 7. To me it is a big leap forward from my previous operating system Windows XP.

Thank god I was sitting in front of my laptop when I saw this thick stream of smoke coming from the back of the computer. I looked over the screen only to find FIRE!!! The cord that directly plugs into the back of the laptop was burning. It happened so fast. I immediately blew out the fire but can only imagine if I had walked away for a few minutes, or god forbid took a shower or something! Buyer beware... this little device can burn down your house!

This replacement lasted less than 6 months. Putting any torque on the wire connectors causes damage. The wire from the power supply to the laptop can loose from its plastic cover on both ends within an few weeks. I've been living dangerously within since then thinking that if I kept the cable perfectly straight, things wouldn't get worse. I have to jiggle the connector every few minutes as it tends to short out. This unit has been making a "fun" electrical crackling sound for a while now. I can't believe how dangerous this item is and how stupid I've been for continuing to use it. Do not buy this unless you're interested in burning your house down.

I was not impressed by this replacement product for my toshiba laptop. Ive only had it for about 5-6 months and its already ready to be thrown out. The outside plastic protective sleeve seperated from the plug on both ends exposing the seperate coverd wires. I plugged it in this afternoon to use my computer and not but 5 seconds after it was plugged in it caught fire and split the wire up in multiple places and filled my home with smoke. WHAT A FIRE HAZARD!! Same thing happened to the manufactures cord. So now I have to shovel out more money to replace the cord again. NOT very impressed.
