Gameplay
EverQuest II is one of the preeminent MMO's in the PC gaming market, and as such gameplay in the Sentinel's Fate expansion pack sticks with the classic RPG elements that has made the series one of the most popular since its 2004 release. Set in the fictional world of Norrath, players create a character from a variety of races and character classes and subclasses. From there they are free to quest to their heart's delight, by themselves or more likely in the company of members of guilds that they can join or create. Success in these quests earn individual characters and their guilds rewards that can be used to aquire new in-game equipment and abilities that are crucial to leveling up characters and proceeding through the game. As with all MMO's, socialization is a major component of the game, encouraged by features such as voice chat, a mail system, global chat channels, and a global marketplace where items can be sold and/or traded. The game requires an Internet connection and a paid subscription for online play. A 30-day subscription is included with the purchase price for new accounts.

Fear

01ec5 Stalker PC New 71AE595Y6VL. SL160 Stalker PC New: Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower WAHLBERG IS CHILLING AS THE PERFECT BOYFRIEND WHO TURNS OUT TOBE THE PERFECT PSYCHO IN THIS NAIL-BITING LOVE-GONE-WRONG SHOCKER.Two years before he let it all hang out in Boogie Nights, former rapper and Calvin Klein underwear model Mark Wahlberg played the psychotic boyfriend in this derivative but surprisingly effective thriller, aptly described by producer Brian Grazer as "Fatal Attraction for teens." Reese Witherspoon plays Nicole Walker, the unwitting teenager who gets the hots for David McCall (Wahlberg). David only seems like a nice guy until he gets upset by the girl's overly protective father. That's when hell breaks loose and the love-struck Romeo turns into a deadly threat who just won't go away. You'd think this kind of material would be beneath the talents of a fine director like James Foley (whose credits include At Close Range and Glengarry Glen Ross), but Foley gives the film just the right blend of style and tension to match Wahlberg's breakthrough role as an all-too-believable teenage maniac. You might feel silly afterwards, but don't be surprised if you find yourself getting caught up in the expertly manipulative suspense. --Jeff Shannon

Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower for the PSP a collection of all the previously released Darkstalkers games, mixed together to form the ultimate package for anyone who is a fan of the series. All the characters from all the games are now playable as well as all the different fighting modes. Say you want to use a Darkstalkers character from the third game and one from the first but with the setup from the second, it’s now possible. The Chaos Tower mode is a branching path style tournament that goes up 100 stories. And to make sure things don’t get boring, the game will sometimes give you a handicap. (ie, no punches, no kicks, no blocking, ect.) And for going through all of that, you’re awarded Darkstalkers character art. Which is quite cool. The only real problem with the game really isn’t even the games fault. The PSP D-pad isn’t the best D-pad ever made for fighing games. But you can eventually get the hang of it and it’s managable. (and there is an “easy” control mode for those not into memorizing all the differnt combos for a fighting game.) So needless to say, if you woant a good 2D fighter for your PSP or even a good 2D fighter that you’re able to take with you everywhere, it doesn’t get any better than this. NnyCW for Capcom City

When I first put this in my PSP, I was amazed by the incredible colors and animations of the characters. The sound is great too along with fluid controls that ultimately make for a must have for fighting game fans. I agree with most people out there that yes, sometimes the moves do seem a little hard to pull off but that hasn’t really hindered me from enjoying this game overall. Anyways, if you like fighters and own a PSP then this really is a must have that will keep you entertained for quite a while.

    Darkstalkers 3 – Circa 1998

    GOOD:
    - Good Balanced 2D fighter
    - An old school fighter that really stands out art style or theme wise

    BAD:
    - Loading times, short but still there
    - Not much bonuses
    - The games art style or theme is not for everyone

    WILL IT FIT YOUR TASTE:
    - Really off the wall looking/acting fighters based on old Hollywood “B” movie monsters but with anime look and feel
    - Surprisingly plays similar to Street Fighter Alpha

    GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
    - Samurai Showdown 4
    - Guilty Gear (original)

    ADDITIONAL NOTES:
    - Practicality same game on Sega Saturn and Playstion Portable
    - Darkstalkers franchise has been through a few names the original was called Darkstalkers and the second was called Night Warriors
    - Darkstalkers 3 has all Fighters and moves from Darkstalkers and Night Warriors

First I’d like to say I enjoyed this game, while not as well known as the Street Fighter series the Darkstalkers series is by far more enjoyable. The cast of charactos is diverse and the animation is much like that of the Vs. series, Wacky and over the top. The downside is it’s hard to appriciate on the playstation. When compared to the first darkstalkers on playstation the charactor animation actually got worse!!! It’s choppy and even upgrading the speed to turbo you can still see the painfully obvious missed frames. That said it in NO WAY compares to the Sega Saturn Night Warriors (the second in the Darkstalkers series). Sure there are more charactors and some pretty backgrounds in this, but they also suffer from poor animation!! If you have a Sega Saturn just stick with Night Warriors, if not then this is the best your gonna get. It’s sad how the playstation mars the graphix of 2-D fighters like this, If you can look past the playstations downfalls this is one of the most fun fighters to date.

We’ve been play EQ2 since release, and we’ve tried all the others hoping for a true next-gen product. There just is no game better than this one. If you haven’t played in a while, give yourself a treat and try it out again. SOE has worked hard to make it a great experience and constantly upgrade and update the game so that it is never stagnant. All levels of play are considered, from solo to raiding. And the world is huge! It is less buggy and better designed in almost every aspect than any game out there, and is much more challenging than games like WoW, especially the raid content.

The SF expansion makes major changes to the game, so expect a learnign curve if you are a returning player. New players should find things less confusing than before as SOE continues to iron things out, bringing new levels of consistency and better customization of characters.

It isn’t perfect, but it sure is the best available. There is nothing that can beat a challenging and vital yet mature MMORPG and this is it.

Sentinel’s Fate is currently the latest expansion for the Everquest II franchise. It offers new lands to explore and a level cap increase from 85 to 90 as well as several new items, quests, and tradeskill recipes. The collector’s addition also includes your choice between 2 versions of a “highland stalker”, a large feline mount that will increase your movement speed by 65%. Sentinel’s Fate is a great expansion which originally sold for over $40.00 and was worth every penny… it is an even better buy at it’s reduced price.

    Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ratchet Deadlocked (Video Game)

We really love the Ratchet and Clank series of games, with the gameplay, humor and general mayhem. Deadlocked is NOT an adventure game like the others – it’s a gladiator combat game. You don’t even have Clank with you for most of the game.

It’s not that this game is “bad” – but it’s different. I really did like the whole exploring-worlds theme of the previous games. The gladiator matches in those were interesting diversions but I was always happy when they were over. In this game, that’s all that you get. You go from arena to arena, mindlessly bashing away at enemies and trying to stay alive.

There are all sorts of mini-games that you unlock along the way – hoverbike races involving traditional follow-the-circles, shooting games, flying games, and much more. The humor is still quite fun, although it’s now a very odd mix of very adult humor and very kiddy humor. The game is rated Teen so the adult humor is reasonably OK I suppose, depending on how protective you are of younger teens.

The weapons upgrades are as usual amazingly fun – and you get to have “mods” to your weapons like acid and napalm to customise them to your liking. You can do all sorts of mixes and matches to get just the feel that you want.

The graphics are of good quality – I’ve always enjoyed the graphic style of the Ratchet and Clank games so this provides more of the same. The sound is reasonably good, although we do find some really repetitive, annoying tracks in there. We also had the game completely freeze up on us a few times. Maybe it needed just a little more QA before it was released.

The multiplayer modes are a really nice extension of the game. I really enjoy playing a game with a friend, so anything with co-op in it is great.

I suppose on the up side that if this had not come out, we would have just been sitting here twiddling our thumbs until the next “real” release of Ratchet and Clank came out. So in that sense, I’m really happy to have this out as filler, to keep us busy until then. We definitely ran out to grab this as soon as it was released, even though it wasn’t (as far as we were concerned) a fully fledged Ratchet and Clank game to plow through.

    Well Recommended!

    Ratchet: Deadlocked, November 3, 2005
    Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ratchet Deadlocked (Video Game)

I personally have loved all the previous Ratchet and Clank games with their destruction, humor, and amazing gameplay, but this one is nothing like the previous games.

For one thing, this game is not an adventure game like the others, it is, like many people have said; a gladiator game. Yes, you do get to explore the levels (meaning you are not exactly trapped in an arena the whole time as you might have thought), but there is no strategy in the game. To beat the levels, all you have to do is mindlessly shoot-up and bash away your opponents. Don’t get me wrong, I love the gladiator fights, for they were in all the previous games, and they were extremely fun, but I was always glad to finish them and go back to the adventure, but in this game, gladiator fights is all you’ve got.

Now, the weapon arsenal in this game is much better than in the previous game! You can customize your weapons to your satisfaction! In this game, you are also provided with different weapons, such as the “Dual Vipers” that you see Ratchet holding on the cover-page. You are also provided with two upgradable robots (yes, they are the ones you see on the cover) which help you defeat your enemies! Since you don’t get to have Clank with you, you are given these robots instead of him, and they are great!

The gameplay and graphics in this game beats the ones in all the other games, for the destruction is more detailed than ever! The gameplay is also very good as well! You can do back-flips and roll-overs to avoid getting shot by incoming bullets! The gameplay and graphics in this game definetly deserve an “A+”!

The humor in this game is as good as ever! Just like the previous Ratchet games, this game is filled with loads of humor to keep you laughing your head off! Also, when in the gladiator fights, you the commentary people throw a few funny jokes every while and then, and they don’t repeat the same jokes over-and-over again like in some wrestling games I have played.

Overall, this game is a great game, but as I have said before, I didn’t exactly like the fact that this game barely has any adventure, but it is still a very great game! If the game had some more adventure, it would have been the perfect game! For people who like Unreal games, this game is for you!

    A well recommended game!

Rating? I give it a 9.1/10, because the lack of adventure was quite a major flaw.

Additional recommendations? Rent it first, and play it, and see if you like it, because I personally liked it, but it depends on what person is playing it.

I am really disappointed with this game (and I loved the other Ratchet & Clank games). This game just moves from one arena battle to the next (in the form of very small planets), so you don’t get the adventures you do with the previous games. There is a cooperative mode where two players can play, but you need a big tv because it’s like watching a couple of microbes run around.

This review is from: Fear [VHS] (VHS Tape)

“Fear” is a horror movie that can seem sort of like a true story of what some people would do these days. Nicole (Reese Witherspoon) starts going out with David (Mark Wahlberg) after they meet at a pool hall and a dance. All seems to be going great until David shows that he’s super jealous. Nicole wants to end her relationship with David, but David just won’t give up on getting her back and soon he’s stalking Nicole and her family.

For the most part, “Fear” is a pretty good movie. It’s a little slow getting started, but once the stalking and fighting begins, the movie is suspenseful and it’s a lot better from that point on. By no means is it a “Scream” ripoff like some people might think it is. As a matter of fact, after I saw the whole movie it seemed to me like it could’ve been based on a true story because some people get jealous or angry enough to do things like David and the rest of the bad guys did in the movie.

If you like good horror movies, I’d recommend at least seeing “Fear.” It has good acting by everybody and it’s exciting in parts.

This review is from: Fear (DVD)

When you see a movie edited on tv and you say “I have got to own this movie!” then you know that it is really good. I was afraid to commit to it since it seemed like a CRUSH rip-off and I didn’t want it to outstand my beloved favorite movie. It didn’t. But, it’s still a creepy little thriller about obsession, love and murder.

Meet Nicole Walker. A 16 year old girl with sex on her mind. Her father just married a woman and has a new stepbrother. Her girlfriend Margo Masse and her friend Gary decide one day, to be late for school and to go get some food at a gritty coffee shop. Nicole glances at David but doesn’t really meet him until a party later that night. When the party becomes a riot, Nicole escapes with David to sit around and talk. It’s love at first sight.

One night, Nicole tells David that she’s ready to have sex. He says he’s with some friends and has to do something. She tells him it’s alright and to come over after and she tells him the code to the front door. Well, David comes in and they have sex. A day later or so, David goes to Nicole’s school to pick her up, he see’s Gary hug her. Not good in David’s eyes. He goes over and beats the crap out of Gary and in the process, hits Nicole in the face, giving her a black eye.

Nicole’s father is more than pissed. David seems to give him the creeps. When he confronts David, David says “You know, Mr. Walker-you really aren’t a f***ot.” Mr. Walker tells David to stay away from Nicole. After Mr. Walker leaves, David starts hitting himself in the chest. He tells Nicole that her father hit him. So she runs off with David, feeling sorry for him. He asks her if she wants to go to a party when he brings her back to her house. She tells him no. But after a few seconds, when he leaves, she decides to drive over herself. She goes there, and looks in a window to see Margo being abused and about to be raped by her “true love” David.

She now discovers David’s true dark side. She won’t talk to him so he “attacks” her in a bathroom at the mall. Mr. Walker’s red car gets smashed up with a note on the broken window saying “Now I’ve poped both your ……..!”….Mr. Walker finds out where David and his gang lives and ruins the place. When the group finds the place in ruins, David knows exactly who it is. And by their law “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a …… tooth” they decide to pay the Walker family a little visit…

What worked in this movie was the psychotic attitude of David. He’s a soid good actor and a damn good liar. You know he’s bad but you really like him. He seems perfect. You try to like him after his accidently hitting Nicole but it becomes harder and harder.

    RECCOMENDED TO FANS OF:
    Fatal Attraction (1987)
    The Crush (1993)
    The Stepfather (1987)

    CAST
    Mark Wahlberg………..David McCall
    Reese Witherspoon….Nicole Walker
    William L. Petersen…..Steve Walker
    Amy Brenneman……….Laura Walker
    Alyssa Milano…………..Margo Masse

    THE MOVIE: 3/4

THE PICTURE QUALITY: 10/10 Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 with only a very very very small amount of grain. Basically, perfect.

THE AUDIO QUALITY: 10/10 5.1 surround is perfect for my TV’s sound system. No upping the volume for me! There is also a Dolby Surround French track.

THE SPECIAL FEATURES: Production notes on the film, cast & crew bios and film credits (Only pre-FEAR movies are shown), a trailer with a lot of grain and Universal Weblinks (basically pointless).

    SUBTITLES: English and spanish.

This review is from: Fear (DVD)

You just know when you see photo booth snaps of Nicole and David (Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg) kissing and snuggling cleverly juxtaposed with David’s jailhouse mugshot on his bedroom wall…this won’t be a cinematic enigma wrapped in a riddle. Fear certainly doesn’t require much thought on the part of the moviegoer.

But it isn’t entirely bad though, if you are prepared for predictable teen angst and psycho boyfriend antics. Reese Witherspoon plays the virgin nymphet Nicole Walker, desperately pining for brooding bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks David McCall, deliciously played by Mark Wahlberg. With the help of “gets around” pal Margo (Alyssa Milano), Nicole soon begins to develop a close bond with David, and (surprise surprise) even loses her virginity to him.

But of course, no such plot would be complete without the overprotective father, played by CSI’s William Petersen. Suspicious of his daughter’s new boyfriend from the start, he forbodes their relationship from the very beginning. That’s when things go “psycho”…

David quickly begins to sport the crazy-serious-insane-obssessed face whenever any other guy goes near Nicole or when her father tries to keep them apart. Where does this get everyone? In a whole mess of unbelievable trouble that will leave the moviewatcher saying “hello? this would never happen!” while watching the movie through their hands.

All in all, not a terrible flick. The ending definitely could have had better closure, but you can’t expect too too much given the corny plot. Oh, and of course, you get to see Mark Wahlberg without his shirt on. That, in itself, makes the movie worth at least one look. :)

This review is from: Far Cry: Vengeance (Video Game)

The Nintendo Wii isn’t even two months old, yet many gamers including myself have gotten a grasp on which types of games play well and which ones don’t play so well. So far, the first-person shooter genre has been the target for a lot of controversy; some Wii gamers love stuff like Call of Duty 3 and Red Steel while others complain that the games are unplayable. I fall into the former category, and thus decided to give Ubisoft Montreal’s Wii iteration of the Far Cry series a shot. Far Cry: Vengeance has its ups and downs but altogether is the most playable Wii shooter yet.

Far Cry: Vengeance won’t win you over with its story. Jack Carver gets caught up with a busty arms dealer named Kade who gets him into all sorts of trouble with a crazed madman named Semeru, his mercenaries, the military, and a man in charge named Kien Do. I’ve never really liked Carver, even in the series’ 2004 PC debut. Vengeance does nothing to change that, with poorly constructed cinemas and the worst voice acting since…well, Elebits, which came out the same day. I’ll just say that December 12th, 2006 marked the day of all days for awful voice acting. As a result, I couldn’t find myself caring much about the story and just wanted to shoot some thugs in the jungle.

Far Cry: Vengeance uses familiar Wii shooter mechanics but does everything better and smoother. Aiming around the screen works well and the aiming/turning “box” feels more natural here than in Red Steel or Call of Duty 3. Ubisoft Montreal added an extra helper by letting the player prevent the camera from turning by holding down the A button. This allows for super-precise aim and severely limits missed-shot frustrations. Jumping with the nunchuck (flick up) works well, and I personally think that reloading (C button) is much more natural than flicking (Red Steel) or pressing the super-small Minus button (Call of Duty 3). I can’t say enough how much more I enjoyed playing this game just because of its intuitive controls. Ubisoft Paris and Treyarch, grab some paper and take notes

There are definitely a lot of guys to shoot, too. I am somewhat disappointed, generally speaking, that Ubisoft Montreal went away from the original game’s stealth-centric style. This style, which forced the player to scope out an upcoming area with binoculars to pinpoint enemy locations and other points of interest, took more time but ultimately provided more depth. Far Cry: Vengeance is much more run-and-gun, which is still pretty fun, but admittedly shallow. As I said, there are a lot of mercs in the lengthy single-player campaign to shoot. There are also a lot of guns to use, like standard pistols and submachine guns as well as high-powered sniper rifles, chain guns, and rocket launchers. The guns are all pretty useful in their own unique ways; the pistol isn’t too weak and thus is handy throughout the game while the sniper rifle allows the player to stay back and pick off thugs from afar. You’ll also drive vehicles like ATVs, patrol boats, and licensed Jeep trucks (strange use of licensing, but whatever), but after a while I preferred to walk and shoot because the vehicles didn’t handle as easily as they should.

Jack’s predator powers, which were made familiar in the Xbox release, Far Cry: Predator, are put to good use in Vengeance. By killing a lot of enemies and busting skulls with headshots, Jack will fill up a Predatorine meter that allows him to utilize some of his powers. Jack initially unlocks a super-fast running speed that can be activated by holding down the A button. He also has a health-regenerating power, done by flicking the nunchuck to the left and the right. This was obviously the most useful power throughout the game. Soon afterward, Jack will be jumping 20 feet into the air, using enhanced senses like sight and smell, and climbing up walls with his bare hands. The predator powers are all a lot of fun to use and open up the gameplay for more possibilities. For example, there’s a sequence about halfway through the game where a player is running across bridges and through the jungle surrounded by snipers. One could either take it slow and pick off the snipers with his or her own rifle or run and jump at mad speeds through the entire area to avoid their gunfire. I personally took the latter approach in this given situation 1) because I’m an awful sniper and 2) I was running low on health and didn’t have enough Predatorine to regenerate my health manually.

Unfortunately, not all is smooth sailing. Despite my enjoyment of most of the game, I’ll gladly tell you that Far Cry: Vengeance looks like piss. It is easily the worst-looking “next-gen” game I’ve ever seen. Nintendo can walk the “gameplay over graphics” line all they want, but when visual factors look like they came from the Nintendo 64 (textures) or Dreamcast (character models) era, the line has been crossed. I’m really not being sarcastic, satirical, or unfair:…

Ok the graphics on this game look like something from the nintendo 64 system…. really really really bad. Find and enemy up ahead??? Great, just shoot ANYPLACE in the general area and you will kill him. If you want feel free to just walk up to them, they wount shoot at you (they just stand around.) I found the way you interact with the game to be the only “cool” feature. The game is so easy and boring to look at, I lost interest and went back to WII sports instead.

Buy the pc version of this game instead. Not only does it have nice graphics, but it plays like a GAME with a story you care about beating.
