I bought this item for my grandma because she travels a lot and needed something that was not heavy or big. I tested it out and besides the fact that it doesnt have a cd rom, i would give it 5 stars.

I pre-ordered this for the Nov. 5, 2008 release date, and anxiously awaited its arrival. I wanted it for its compactness and portability, and I am certainly not disappointed on either of those considerations. This netbook is awesome for taking on an airplane or to the coffee shop. The battery lasts about 4 hours, which is more than enough for my typical usage. The keyboard is at 85% size, which I am able to adjust to without too much trouble. I like that the mouse buttons are in the normal locations. The biggest complaint about the keyboard is the apostrophe key being out of place. Even after almost a year of constant usage, I still have to hunt for that key, and I am a better-than-average typist. Every now and then it runs slowly because of memory size. Those are my two complaints, BOTH of which I believe are resolved in the new Dell Mini 10. A 92% keyboard with all the keys in the right place, and a 120 or 160 gig harddrive. I wish I had waited, but at the same time I am very happy with this and use it almost exclusively. I use it for word processing, email and internet, powerpoint presentations, photo editing, etc. I am overall very happy with it, but think I would be happier still with the mini 10.

Got this unit from Dell about 3 or 4 months ago, surprised about the good quality of the unit overall in cosmetic appearance, it was the glossy black version. I actually sent the first unit back since there were dead pixels on the screen. The second unit was sent out and was fine in that regard. I got mine with Ubuntu, 4 gb ssd and 1 gb ram, no web cam. I was $205 delivered from Dell. I didn't care much for Ubuntu, when it worked it was fine but if you had a problem you have to set up a forum service request and send data and log files which I have no time for. Eventually put XP on the unit worked well - I did not nLite the XP (again no time) so it takes up 3.5gb of my drive. Since I use the unit for mainly surfing the web and email so works fine for those purposes. XP is stable. At times it hangs for a while when surfing but then comes back to life. I have never needed to reboot/hard stop the system. SO for ~$200 works great for my needs of surfing the net.

It has been now eight months of my suffering. While not everything is bad I am giving it one star based solely on the qualities of its keyboard. I wish I could give zero. 1. Who came up with a dumb idea to leave out the function key row? Leave F11 and F12 withoug any equivalent? 2. Who shuffled enter and shift? 3. Who switched several other keys around? Incredible. The total mess stands out if you happen to be unfortunate enough and need to switch between different languages and/or touch type. Some characters are even not possible. Yeeh. Have the wireless keyboard. BUT Will YOU carry the hog around? On a plane? To a library? I am SOOO unhappy with this netbook I am giving it one star. I wish I could give zero. No...the time did not resolve my suffering. I should have got rid of this succker loong ago. yes...you can connect the external keyboard and external lcd and then you CAN get buy. But using this netbook as a netbook ... SUCKS.

i ordered the dell mini 9 in pink, and though it took a month longer than it should have to ship, it was well worth the wait! i thought about ordering an external hard drive for this, and glad i didnt. i ordered it with 8 gig internal hd and it runs very smoothly. i dont plan on loading music on it, im sure that would slow it down a bit. the only concern i have is the , . and / keys. most of the time when i try to type . i end up hitting / and it gets a bit annoying. beyond that, this is a great laptop!
