This netbook is great. I am not a computer expert, but I did manage to upgrade to 2 gigs of RAM. The three things that impress me the most are (1) its small size (much smaller than a notebook computer yet almost as versatile) which makes the Acer easy to carry around, yet the keyboard is fairly close to standard size; (2) its speed ; and (3) its WiFi capabilities are great without having to use any external devices to amplify the signals from any WiFi source I have tried.
While the unit seems to be a great value for its price point, it still has a low price point. I am concerned that my hamfisted typing skills may one day break a key or two on the keyboard. Similarly the “right click” and “left click” functions on its built-in control panel seem less sturdy than on a typical notebook computer or external mouse. I also think that opening and closing the “jaws” of the ACER netbook might cause the “joint” to wear out over time. Hopefully, the unit will become technically obsolete before any of these occurs. I suggest that other owners be gentle to the Acer. This is a fairly delicate piece of equipment.
I am very glad I purchased this netbook and will use it while traveling and teaching.

Love this netbook! Researching and reading reviews of all the top rated netbooks led me to choose Gateway. Perfect look, size and weight. Set up was a breeze – going through the initial windows setting up passwords etc. Connection to printer went smoothly. Keyboard is very easy to type on as it is almost full size, it’s just the shift and enter keys on the side which are smaller. Screen view is bright, sharp and clear. Touchpad is sensitive, and took me a bit to get used to, so I have a wireless mouse to use if I intend to work for a longer period of time – I’m just more used to that. I purchased the netbook to use at meetings, email, web surfing and travel. It’s meet all those needs quite easily. It’s so portable and easy to carry around. Screen view when reading documents is approx 1/3 to 1/2 the page at a time. For my uses the battery lasts a approx. 7 hours and 45 minutes. It takes a full 2 hours to fully charge the battery. Viewing video from youtube is not a problem – I feel that there’s more than enough memory on this netbook. Also through Amazon I purchased the Higher Ground 10″ mini shuttle case with cooling dock which is a fantastic case – I mention it because when I use it for 4-5 hours at a time the cooling dock really does it’s job.

Disappointed – Daiseedesign –
I bought this netbook for college purposes it handy and very compact but it only comes with the windows 7 start which mean you have a certain amount of time to use the programs and now I have to spend another dollars on top of the 0 to buy the programs and like I said before I’m a college student so I had enough to get te computer but now I have to try and save up so I can buy windows 7 and my collgeg books. So I kinda wished I read more into it and saw that the windows 7 wasn’t a trailthing or I wouldn’t have wasted my money. The netbook it’s self is good it’s stays charged and has long life it was giving me trouble on connecting to my wifi but that was an operator error.

I bought the Gateway LT a month ago. I had the option to get a larger bigger and fancier one but insisted to my husband I wanted something portable. I also could have opted for an ipad which I want some day but right now I needed something more computer-y. My concerns were viewing the screen and keyboard. I went to Best Buy to try a few small ones out. I liked this keyboard the best and the looks of the Gateway. Needless to say I purchased it on Amazon. I am very pleased. My husband immediately made jokes about my little computer but after lugging his big one around, he started asking if he could use mine. The size of the keyboard does not bother me at all and I did transcription for years, so a lot of typing. I do recommend learning to zoom your screen in and out with the touch pad. I use that quite a bit. If not use the page menu and do it there. I also went to Office Depot and picked up a toggle mouse so I didn’t have to use the touch pad all the time. For 299.00 you can’t go wrong. I toss it in my purse and go. I use MS Works on it and thought I might not like that but so far its fine. Again, very happy with this little computer!!

Does everything a NAS/Media Server should do plus more. The remote web access is awesome, I can share family videos/photos by assigning User names & Passwords to individual members allowing family to get the latest and greatest video/photos the day I put them on the server. Using "Home Server" dynamic DNS I can host these files on as a static WWW server with a dynamic IP hosted on my DSL line. The user interface is easy to navigate and the server is easy to setup, all my media streams easily. This thing will back up to a removable secondary drive I keep in a safe quickly and easily. The ability to hook up streaming security camera's is a plus if I ever chose to do so. Not to mention the ability to access my music/photo's/videos on various networked electronics throughout the house is a definite plus. I highly recommend this product, for the money I paid you can't beat this thing.

I only have the Asus TS Mini 2TB hooked up for about 24 hours now. It came as expected (3 days early even). The server is much smaller than expect and runs very quiet as other reviews have mentioned. The initial setup as very easy. I had my 2 laptops installed and backups setup in less than 2 hours total from the time I opened the box. So far I am very pleased. Another smooth buying experience from Amazon.com.
BTW - it did come with 2 TB as advertised if anyone is still concerned about that.

I'd been trying to talk my self out of this purchase but finally decided to take the plunge when I saw the red color go on sale for 0. Product was delivered right on time. I was excited to get it set up so we could use it in the family room to check email and to browse the net when TV got boring. The trouble started when I had difficultly connecting to my home network. Not a problem, I should be able to contact Acer customer service for help, right? Wrong. They were entirely unhelpful. Thankfully I was able to contact a friend who was able to resolve the problem over the phone for me.

I like the product and feel that I made a wise purchasing decision. But I was sorely tempted to return the netbook for a refund after my experience with Acer customer service. Hopefully I won't need to contact them again.

I'd recommend this item to anyone who is looking for a notebook. It is stylish, very light, and surprisingly quick. And the red color is nice. Since I wanted a notebook with XP rather than Win7, this fit the bill nicely. As always, Amazon has an incredible selection and provided quick shipping.

I purchased this item for my wife as an anniversary gift. She was thrilled with it. Setup was fairly straight forward and wireless connection to our home router was simple. Have only had this item for three weeks but all is well so far. The small keyboard works well and the screen gives a clear and sharp image. This item does not come with a built in CD/DVD reader but does have several usb ports for transferring data from one pc to another. I did however purchase an accessory pack that included a DVD drive that connects to the Aspire via USB port. The pack also included a usb wireless mouse and a protective jacket for the netbook. All in all we, my wife actually, is very satisfied with this netwbook. She loves the attractive dark red color as well!

This netbook and its battery life are just as advertised if you are just surfing the net. Adding an external disk drive halves that. You need to let the battery charge up first, then completely discharge down to nothing then recharge it to get the full 9 hours out of it.
The netbook is light enough to use - the keyboard takes a bit to get used to. Man the screen is small! Hitting the shift key doesn't always work LOL.
Runs better with 2 GB memory installed. I got it with Windows XP installed to save money so I could buy the extra memory and external drive.
I take this to doctor's offices while I'm waiting and love how light and portable it is.
The only negative things I can say for it is that the SPEAKERS suck and are chintzy. I could barely hear any music playing. I had to connect external battery powered speakers for portability to get a good sound. Also, a negative thing is that the 3 USB ports get used up quickly by a wireless mouse and an optical drive that is external that takes up 2 ports but that is easily solved by connecting a 4 port external USB 2.0 hub to it that is portable.
I use this in my bedroom most of the time for chatting, checking email and doing online banking and then for traveling or waiting in doctor's offices. It works great with a wireless broadband USB modem for those purposes.
I have a dog at home and the netbook attracts dog hairs like crazy to it for some oddball reason.
The webcam takes pretty good pics - even in low light but is a cheezy looking pic.
I was pleased with the overall performance and for $280 is a nice purchase.

This is my 3rd netbook and is by far the best. It came with Windows XP, but I installed Ubuntu Linux and have loved it since. It has buttons to turn bluetooth and wireless on/off. The battery life is phenominal, I have gotten over 7 hrs. and still had some juice left. This netbook is a must have.

I spent a lot of time researching netbooks. One option I wanted was to be able to replace the hard drive, which is possible on the Aspire One but not many others. I pulled the trigger on Black Friday, when Amazon was selling the 1955, which has XP, bluetooth, a 5800 mAh battery, and the N280 processor (all good) for $250. These options on this and other netbooks push the price closer to $400.
The unit is good, but other netbooks have better keyboards. This model's isn't bad, but the keys could be bigger; it does have a proper right shift key, which is crucial. Battery life if outstanding, at around 9-10 hours for basic web browsing and the screen dimmed to about 60%, which is perfectly viewable. Haven't been able to get bluetooth working yet, but I've only tried once so far. Performance is standard for netbooks with the Atom processor. For a heavy video user, I would suggest getting one with an Ion chip or similar.
Highly recommended for web and email use and anyone that needs to access the drive bay. New models coming out at CES, so the AO250 design will probably be phased out. If you're going to get an Aspire One, get this model.

I'm so glad I snagged this mini for black friday on amazon. The dell mini is an awesome laptop for its basic uses. It's great for students who need to haul their laptop along with them everywhere on a college campus. This laptop provides very good basic functions. I feel like installing windows exp might speed the computer up... maybe. This is a good laptop for travel, it's much lighter than my old 15 inch laptop. I recommend buying a small mouse and a laptop case for this laptop. This mini was worth my money and serves the purposes I need for note taking in large lectures and doing online homework on school campus.

This netbook has some very nice features, it's light weight, long battery life, the Digital TV inputs are nice. It works well for basic computing needs, such as taking notes, surfing the internet, email, etc.
Here's what I dislike:
1) Function keys. F1-F12. Normally these are the primary keys on a keyboard. We are use to F1 = Help, F5 = Refresh website. On this netbook, the F keys are secondary. You need to press the FN button to get access to these commonly used keys (So refresh website is FN+F5). What are the primary keys? Switch to Projector mode, Turn on/off Wi-Fi. Battery life monitor, Display brightness controls, Volume controls. Print screen. Most of these keys are rarely used. Some of the function keys don't even have a primary fiction. F6, F11, and F12 do NOTHING unless you hold FN key. They should of swapped the primary and secondary use of these keys.
2) *WARNING* YOU CANNOT UPGRADE RAM. Not "It's hard". You can't do it. Period. There is no door on the bottom to upgrade RAM and I just went in from the top. After digging the motherboard out, there is NO RAM sim. The 1 gig ram is part of the CPU. You cannot have 2 gig ram. You are stuck at 1 gig. If they would allow you to upgrade to 2 gig, I'd bump this up to 3-4 stars. But this is a MAJOR flaw in my opinion.

(This review is for the second Dell Inspiron Mini 10 I received). Glad I purchased this Dell mini. I would never confuse it with my laptop - the netbook is a little slower and the (smaller) keyboard size takes getting used to. And I have a tendency (when scrolling) to accidentally change the screen size. I have only been able to get a few tv channels, but even a few will be nice to get when camping, etc. I bought the mini for its portability and battery life and both have been great.
The first Dell Amazon sent me didn't work properly right out of the box. When booted up, the touch pad took 15 to 45 minutes to work. Dell support was very helpful and (remotely) downloaded drivers, but the netbook continued to act up. Amazon was great about exchanging the computer and the second one works great.
I have been a long time customer of Amazon and this was my first return and I was extremely satisfied with their service. Knowing that Amazon stands behind the things they sell will make it even easier to buy in the future. Thanks Amazon!

I like this product alot. The only complaint I have is that some internet programs run slow on it. But overall it is pretty speedy and easy to cart around. We also bought a mini mouse to go with it but the touch mouse on the keyboard works great and has many features. Overall a good product!
